Witchcraft is the same damn thing. You don’t need an altar that looks like you cleared out the inventory at a witchy-woo-woo store. You don’t need to run up your credit card. Honestly, you don’t need anything  except yourself. Tools are seasoning. Lovely? Yes. Necessary? Absolutely not. Chicken still cooks without paprika. Open a window and boom - Air is present. Fire (South) Transformation, passion, heat. A candle - birthday, pillar, tea light, whatever you’ve got. Flowers work too (yep, sun-grown energy = Fire). Even a match you strike with intention is enough. Water (West) Feeling, intuition, flow. Tea. Coffee. A small bowl of water. Tap water in a glass is perfectly valid witchcraft. This one doesn’t need to be fancy. Hydration magic = witch approved. Spirit (Center - that's you) This is the part that’s already yours. An oracle card. A tarot card. A sticky note with a word scribbled on it. Your breath. Your heartbeat. This is where the magic plugs into you. Start cheap. Start small. Start now. You do not  need to spend money to be a witch.     There’s something tender about carving out a small pocket of quiet, no performance, no perfection, just presence. When I first started exploring my own spiritual path, I realized how powerful it felt to create moments that were mine - rituals that helped me listen in instead of reaching out. They became anchors. A way to reconnect with myself, my intuition, and the natural rhythms that hold everything together. Maybe you’ve felt that same pull, to slow down, breathe deeper, and remember what your inner voice sounds like beneath all the noise. That’s what these rituals are for: a return, not a reinvention. Independent Spiritual Practices: A Path Back to Your Own Wisdom Independent spiritual practice is really about trust. Trusting your rhythm, your instincts, your way of connecting. You don’t need a group, a script, or fancy tools, just curiosity and intention. Once I understood that, something shifted. The freedom to design my own rituals felt like an exhale I didn’t know I was holding. Some days, it’s a quiet morning with coffee and a few deep breaths before the world wakes up. Other days, it’s lighting a candle and whispering gratitude before bed. Maybe it’s a journal page, a walk under the moon, or a bowl of saltwater on your altar. The beauty is in the simplicity, each act becomes a mirror, reflecting the parts of you that are ready to be seen. These rituals don’t ask you to be anyone else. They meet you where you are and remind you that the sacred isn’t somewhere out there, it’s right here, in the everyday moments you choose to make meaningful. A single candle can be used to create a powerful ritual. Beginning Your Ritual Practice If you’re wondering where to begin, start small. The most meaningful rituals usually grow from the simplest actions. Choose one or two gestures that speak to you, something that helps you pause and reconnect. You might: Light a candle to mark the start of your ritual. Speak an affirmation, a prayer, or a single word of intention. Spend a few quiet minutes just breathing letting the exhale be your release. Keep it simple:  Select just a few meaningful items that bring comfort or focus. Make it personal:  Add things that reflect you - photos, stones, flowers, handwritten words, whatever stirs something real. Keep it clean:  Wipe it down, clear away clutter, refresh the energy. Set boundaries:  Let others know this space is off-limits if you need that sense of protection. Your ritual space is a mirror of your inner landscape. It should feel welcoming, safe, and alive, a place where you can drop the masks and simply be. It’s not the absence of movement, but the kind that follows the slam of a door or the exhale after a long summer sprint. A hush that says: Sit down. Breathe. Let’s get honest. Libra is ruled by Venus and loves beauty in all forms—velvet shadows, candlelit dinners, and aesthetically pleasing Instagram grids. But it’s not all sparkle and soft focus. Libra also governs the 7th house: partnerships, contracts, and sacred agreements. And its corresponding tarot card? Justice. Not revenge. Not retribution. Just… balance. Accountability. Truth that doesn’t flinch. The Nature of Balance We often romanticize balance, thinking it’s a perfect split between time blocks and bubble baths. But real balance? It’s not symmetrical. It’s sovereign. It is the art of choosing what’s right, not what looks right. It’s saying “no” to performative peace and “yes” to the messy, necessary conversations.     Finding Hygge in November’s Liminal Quiet October burns bright. December twinkles. And November? November lingers in the in-between. It’s the soft breath between harvest and hibernation - a month of gray skies, wool socks, and quiet cups of tea that never make it to Instagram. The world seems to slow down, not out of laziness, but out of wisdom. The trees rest. The soil exhales. And somewhere in that hush, we’re invited to find our own version of hygge  - the Danish art of cozy contentment. The Practice of Hygge Hygge  isn’t about buying the perfect blanket or staging a Pinterest-worthy scene. It ’s about comfort in the ordinary  - the warmth of soup simmering on the stove, the sound of rain against the window, a candle flickering beside a journal. It’s permission to be still. To savor. To wrap yourself in softness and know that rest is productive, too. Here are a few simple ways to welcome November’s slower rhythm: Layer comfort : pull on your softest socks, worn flannel, or favorite sweater. Stir something earthy : roast root vegetables - carrots, parsnips, potatoes - and let the kitchen smell like nourishment. Warm your hands : tea, mulled cider, or coffee so strong it hums. When I started practicing mindfulness regularly, I realized it wasn’t about escaping life’s challenges but meeting them with a calm heart. Mindfulness is more than just a buzzword. It’s a way to reconnect with the present moment, to feel grounded in your own skin. This grounding creates space for clarity and empowerment - two things we all need when navigating life’s twists and turns. Imagine waking up each day with a sense of calm readiness, rather than anxiety or overwhelm. That’s the gift of daily mindfulness. Just a few minutes of peaceful reflection can have a powerful impact. How to Begin Your Journey with Daily Mindfulness Techniques Starting something new can feel intimidating, but mindfulness is wonderfully accessible. You don’t need special equipment or hours of free time. Just a willingness to pause and breathe. Here’s a simple way to begin: Find a quiet spot - even if it’s just a corner of your room. Set a timer for 3-5 minutes - short and sweet is perfect. Focus on your breath - notice the air moving in and out. Gently bring your attention back whenever your mind wanders. I remember the first time I tried this. My mind was like a wild horse, galloping in every direction. But with patience, I learned to gently guide it back. Over time, those few minutes became a sanctuary, a daily gift to myself. You might wonder, “What if I don’t have time?” That’s exactly why these techniques are so powerful. They fit into the cracks of your day - waiting in line, sipping your morning tea, or just before bed. The key is consistency, not duration. What are some mindfulness exercises? Slowly bring your attention to each part of your body, starting from your toes and moving upward. Notice any tension or sensations without judgment. This exercise helps you reconnect with your physical self and release stress. Mindful Walking : Take a slow walk, focusing on each step. Feel your feet touching the ground, the rhythm of your movement, the sounds around you. This practice turns an everyday activity into a moment of presence. Gratitude Journaling : Each day, write down three things you’re grateful for. This simple act shifts your focus from what’s lacking to what’s abundant in your life. Five Senses Exercise : Pause and notice five things you can see, four you can touch, three you can hear, two you can smell, and one you can taste. This anchors you in the here and now. Pull a Card : Using a Tarot or oracle deck, shuffle the cards and when you are ready draw a card. Let the image speak to you. You do not have to know the direct meaning of a Tarot card to gain insight from the visual clues it holds. Write down, and when you are ready, a few thoughts about the images. Or tell yourself a story about what you see, think, or feel. These are just a few examples, but the possibilities are endless. The important part is to find what resonates with you and make it your own. Spend a moment journaling your thoughts. The Gentle Power of Mindfulness in Everyday Life Incorporating mindfulness into daily life doesn’t mean you have to sit still for hours. It’s about weaving moments of awareness into your routine. For me, it’s the pause before answering an email, the deep breath before a meeting, or the mindful sip of coffee in the morning. When you practice mindfulness, you start to notice the little things - the warmth of sunlight on your skin, the sound of birds outside your window, the texture of your clothes.   • Tiny Rituals: a moment of connection

    I began to notice certain actions I was taking that seemed very basic, ordinary, even mundane and realized that each held glimmers of possibility. What if, inside each of these actions, was the space to become grounded, to truly be "where my feet are"? What if I stirred my coffee and whispered an intention for the day? How would it feel to touch a Rose Quartz crystal and say "I love you", while looking at myself in the mirror? What could happen? Mundane moments became powerful. ​ As a solitary Witch, I have many rituals that are just part of my expression, my spiritual practice. These are more involved and are usually associated with a season, lunar cycle, or holiday. However, the small, daily practices are what keep me mindful that I can, at any time, reconnect to myself.  When I began putting intention behind the action, I noticed myself shifting from future-focused to present. My heart rate slowed, and my mind was clearer. In the last few years these simple practices have grown in number, some I do with regularity, some ebb and flow with the season. Some have lost their initial spark and get shelved and new ones are being created all the time. ​ Fast forward to October 2023 during a conversation with a dear friend who simply suggested that I share these "tiny rituals" with my community. After my initial resistance, I allowed myself the possibility of making these practices more widely available. How could this possibly help others, I wondered? ​ Tiny Rituals has a home and a bigger purpose. ​ Within weeks of that conversation, I launched the Salt & Sage Tiny Rituals subscription box and offered it to a small group of women who knew my work with Tarot. I limited the number of boxes available to keep it doable for myself and honestly to keep it more meaningful. Every aspect of the box is created by me, from sourcing of the tools included, to the creation of rituals to packaging to dropping off at the post office. It seems sweeter to keep it close to my heart and my work. ​ I also began creating Full and New Moon postings for a couple of groups I am in and began including Tiny Rituals the others could create in their own lives - working with candles and herbs, creating art, journaling prompts, and more. The tools help the recipient connect to their inner light, and their intuition, and ultimately are an expression of self-love. While I never thought about sharing these with others, preferring to keep my spirituality in the broom closet, I also recognized that almost every person I had contact with, many of them coaching clients, needed the same medicine I was taking - simple ways of reconnecting and remembering that life is simply moments strung together. I hope that as more and more people recognize these small moments, purposely connecting with our breath, the elements, a simple stone, a flicker of a candle, the setting of an intention, the ripple effect of beautiful, harmonious energy keeps us connected, in some tiny way.
